Buffalo Sabres 2016 Top 25 Under 25: #25 Gustav Possler

Gustav Possler

Position: RW/LW

Age: 20

Height: 6’0″

Weight: 182 lbs.

2013-14 Team: MODO (SHL)

Acquired: Drafted in the 5th round, 130th overall, in the 2013 draft

Last Year’s Ranking: 25

Gustav Possler stayed at the same spot he did in last year’s ranking. That may sound like he stayed consistent, but with all the players who have been moved from last year’s rankings, it shows a lack of progress in his second season in the SHL.

Possler had an incredible start to his career with MODO in 2013, leading the team in points and producing at almost a point a game pace before suffering a knee injury. He returned this season to play twice as many games, but notched only six more points. His 21 points was good enough for third on MODO in scoring, but that is less impressive when you factor in that the team lost almost twice as many games as they won.

He was a very good skater before the injury, and based on the video below it doesn’t look like the knee issues have slowed him down much. Most of his goals this year were due to one of two things: his great shot or being around the net at the right time. He’s so successful already that his Twitter account is already verified. Back down, all you Gustav Possler impersonators.

Sabres fans have yet to see the young Swede in person, as he’s missed the past two development camps. He’ll be returning for another year in SHL, as he’s signed through this season. Odds are this is his final year in Europe before making the trip to Rochester.
