The Buffalo Sabres have announced that head coach Don Granato has been relieved of his duties, less than 12 hours after the team’s final regular season game. Assistant coach Jason Christine and video coordinator Matt Smith have also been relieved.
Granato joined the Sabres in 2019 as an assistant coach before being named interim head coach on March 17, 2021. Under his leadership, the Sabres went 122-125-27, including 39-37-6 this season.
Christie joined Buffalo as an assistant coach in 2021 after years with the ECHL’s Jacksonville IceMen, where he served as head coach and vice president of hockey operations.
Smith joined the Sabres as a video coach in 2022 before becoming the team’s video coordinator this season.
