Introduction: Andrej Sekera has always been one of those defensemen that has been apart of the number crunch at the backend of the Sabres blueline. He played in a total of 76 games this season and was consistently fighting for playing time with Mike Weber and Chris Butler for the sixth and final defensive spot. Sekera only managed two playoff games as he was held out of the lineup for an upper body injury.

Key Stat: While other defensemen were brought in to play with Tyler Myers, by the end of the season it seemed that Sekera and Myers were working out well. Sekera played 44.5% of his even strength time this season with Tyler Myers, 10.2% with Mike Weber and 9.7% with Steve Montador

Thumbs Up: Sekera has been a decent defenseman in his career and had career highs in points and games played this season. He seemed to solidify a place in the lineup this year as other defensemen like Craig Rivet and Mike Weber were rotated in and out of the lineup.

This was also the first full season Sekera finished with a positive plus/minus rating, +11. At times, Sekera has been deemed defensively irresponsible, but it seemed that this season he finally found a better defensive strategy and ha

Thumbs Down: Sekera still seems to have those defensive relapses at times which caused 51 giveaways this season, third on the team behind Tyler Myers and Steve Montador. That would be acceptable if Sekera contributed more on the offensive side of the puck, but he only had 88 shots and three goals last season.

Voting: On a scale of one to ten, one being the lowest and ten being the highest, grade Derek Roy on his season according to the expectations you had for him. If he met them, give him a five or a six. If he eclipsed them, aim for a seven or beyond. If he failed to meet them, give him a lower number relating to how poorly he missed the target.
