2020 IIHF World Junior Championships: Day 2 Recap

It was a much lighter day of action on day two of the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championships. Only two games were held on Friday, after a busy four-game schedule on Thursday.

Slovakia 3, Kazakhstan 1

Oliver Okuliar, Daniel Vladimir Tkac and Robert Dzugan scored for Slovakia. Maxim Musorov scored his third goal of the tournament and the lone goal of the game for Kazakhstan.

Samuel Hlavaj stopped 22 of 23 shots faced, while Vladislav Nurek stopped 21 of 23 shots faced.

United States 6, Germany 3

Germany received goals from John Peterka (2) and Dominik Bokk, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the United States’ offense. Jordan Harris and Zac Jones scored for the U.S. in the first period; Shane Pinto and Curtis Hall added goals in the middle frame. Bobby Brink and Oliver Wahlstrom also scored in the third period for the United States.

Dustin Wolf made 17 saves on 20 shots faced for the Americans, while Tobias Ancicka had 23 saves on 29 shots faed for Germany.

Team USA captain, and Buffalo Sabres prospect, Mattias Samuelsson ha two penalty minutes and was a plus-1 in the win. He led all U.S. players with 19:17 ice time in the win.

Samuelsson was the only Sabres prospect in action on Friday, but the other three will be in action on Saturday. Finland faces Slovakia; Czech Republic (Matej Pekar) faces Germany. Sweden (Erik Portillo) squares off against Switzerland, while Canada (Dylan Cozens) faces Russia.
