2013 NHL Draft: Sabres Take Williamsville, NY Native Justin Bailey With Pick #52

With the 52nd pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres have selected forward Justin Bailey.

We all wanted it to happen, and the Sabres made our dreams come true. WNY native Justin Bailey, son of former Bills linebacker Carlton Bailey, will be playing for his hometown team someday. He fills a much needed power forward role in the Sabres prospect depth chart, standing 6’3”, 183lbs, and showing good scoring touch and skating ability.

The 17-year old (he’ll turn 18 tomorrow) left winger needs to use his body a bit more effectively, but the injuries that hampered him this year may have had something to do with that. If he can continue to grow in Kitchener and make it to the NHL soon, it would be great to see him join fellow Buffalo connections Patrick Kaleta and Marcus Foligno to add to the hometown flavor the Sabres are beginning to develop.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, the name “Justin Bailey” was a code for the original Metroid game on the NES. So he’s got that going for him as well.

Here’s what Future Considerations had to say about him:

Bailey owns one of the best shots in the entire draft class, and has incredible athleticism and skating ability; looks like a linebacker on ice but has great hands. Injuries slowed him some this year and doesn’t play as big as people want him to be, but still competes and puts forth an honest effort each shift.
