2012 NHL Draft: Buffalo Sabres Will Pick 12th

The 2012 NHL Draft lottery was held tonight, and now that it’s all said and done, the Buffalo Sabres hold the 12th overall selection.

The big surprise tonight was that the consensus worst team in the NHL, the Columbus Blue Jackets, did not win the lottery, but the Edmonton Oilers did. Edmonton will be picking first overall for the third straight year, obviously trying to follow the “Pittsburgh plan” that Toronto GM Brian Burke loves so much.

In addition to the 12th overall selection, Buffalo will also have Nashville’s first round pick thanks to the Paul Gaustad trade, but we won’t know what number pick that will be until Nashville is knocked out of the playoffs (go Detroit!)
