New Defenseman Inks Three Year Contract With Buffalo
Former Anaheim Duck Olen Zellweger has signed a new deal with Buffalo after his trade to Western N.Y. last week on draft day. The 22 year old with three NHL seasons under his belt was a resticted free agent upon arrival. Zellweger’s deal is for three years and about 9 million dollars. (exact numbers to come) He is the top candadate as of now to take Bo Byram’s spot alongside Owen Power.
In 2022-23, Zellweger was voted the top defender among players in the OHL, QMJHL and WHL combined. He won the Canadian Hockey League Defenseman of the Year. The speedy Olen scored 22 points in 76 games last year for the Ducks and some are now calling him “Byram Lite”. He has a ways to go to fill Bo’s skates but he has all the tools. This feels like a fair deal for both sides as the Sabres figure out what they have with this player.
