Watch Dan Bylsma’s introductory press conference

The Sabres introduced Dan Bylsma this afternoon, and gave the media pretty much what we all expected. There wasn’t much flair, nothing that would make you spit out your drink. Just a lot about the talent that the Sabres have accumulated, and

“I coached star players in Pittsburgh,” Bylsma said. “That’s maybe going to be the case with the young players who are coming to the Sabres.”

“We got better today,” Tim Murray said.

Bylsma said he’s already spoken to Evander Kane and Josh Gorges, and expects to talk to every player on the team eventually. When asked what appealed to him on the current roster, he immediately mentioned the team’s young defensive core as well as players like Matt Moulson and Tyler Ennis.

“He’s done something that I haven’t done. He’s won a Cup,” Tim Murray said. “He can teach me about that experience.”

Murray said that the Penguins decided not to waive the compensation for the hiring, but that that did not deter the Sabres from hiring Bylsma. Buffalo will send the Penguins a third-round pick in 2016, acquired from the Islanders and originally belonging to the Canucks.
