This Week in Amerks Hockey: Weeks of 11/11 and 11/18

I’m not usually wrong. I mean, everyone is wrong once in a while, right? Not me. I’m not usually wrong. I was wrong about Luke Adam. I’ll take my wrongness and deal with it – I never said he didn’t deserve to be with Rochester. In 15 games, he had 18 points (13+5) and 8 PIM. I hope he’ll do really well up there. Also called up was Brayden McNabb, reuniting him with his BFFL Marcus Foligno. Brayden has 12 points in 15 games (2+10) and 29 PIM. Also on the list was Alexander Sulzer, my favorite Ginger, who has 7 points (2+5) in 10 games.

“If it brings me to my knees, it’s a bad religion. This unrequited love, to me it’s nothing but a one-man cult, cyanide inside my styrofoam cup.” (Frank Ocean, Bad Religion)

The good thing about going to more hockey games is that you get to see more live hockey. This, to me, is almost (almost) never a bad thing. The good thing about going to more hockey games is that I get to see what this team looks like in person. Sometimes, that’s not such a good thing. The Amerks … well, guys, they don’t look so great in person right now. They can’t play with a lead. They don’t know how. They make silly mistakes on the blue line. They make poor choices on who should take faceoffs. Mike Zigomanis is one of the best faceoff guys in the league. Always has been. He took fewer draws on November 22 than I’ve seen the rest of the season. They got shut out – SHUT OUT – by the worst team in the AHL, the Utica Comets. I know a lot of us are Sabres fans, I hope that you all remember what a shutout is. I had to get a reminder from my Bruins fan. Apparently, his team gets these crazy things called “shutouts.” Well, the Utica Comets got one on November 23 against the Amerks, beating them 2-0. What in the ever loving is going on in Rochester!?

Who’s Hot?

No one. I can’t think of anyone who’s name isn’t Mike Zigomanis, whom I’ve sung the praises of here and on my Twitter feed, who deserves to be “hot” right now. Sorry, Amerks. Do better. Mike’s beard is even better than the rest of the team’s. It’s so epic.

Who’s Not?

Everyone. The Amerks have lost 4 in a row, and 7 of their last 9. They’ve picked up two little loser points in that time span. Something’s gotta give, and it’s gotta give soon.

The Amerks have a three-in-four coming into the holiday weekend, hosting Hamilton and Lake Erie on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. They then head to Toronto on Saturday, November 30. In a strange twist (not really), my best Canadian and I will be at the Toronto game, so that’s something. I hope that everyone who celebrates it has a nice Thanksgiving, and let’s go Amerks!
