The Buffalo Sabres week ahead: 10/11-10/17

After a busy opening weekend that saw plenty of excitement courtesy of Jack Eichel and the team earning their first win under new coach Dan Bylsma, the Buffalo Sabres will get a chance to catch their breath, string a few practices together, and continue to work on bringing this very new team together before they take the ice once again. Here’s what the team has coming up this week on their Florida vacation.

Thursday – Sabres at Panthers, 7:30pm

After crushing the Flyers by a score of 7-1 in their season opener, the Panthers were subsequently shut out by Philly 1-0 in the rematch yesterday. Both the Sabres and Panthers currently sit with two points in the Eastern Conference, though Florida will play their third game on Tuesday. This should be a fun battle of two young squads featuring recent high draft picks.

Saturday – Sabres at Lightning, 7pm

The Lightning have picked up right where they left off last season, going 3-0-0 and leading the entire NHL with a +7 goal differential. The Sabres will be looking for a different outcome than the first time these two teams met, where the Lightning won 4-1. Buffalo seems to have found a bit of footing with their new squad, and did keep pace with Tampa for two periods in their first meeting, so there’s a bit of hope here, but this will be another tough test early in the season.
