The Best Of Jeanneret: (1) Top Shelf vs. (4) We Are Not Worthy

The Best of Rick Jeanneret is our summer quest to determine which of Jeanneret's most memorable calls ranks as the greatest of all time by ranking and voting on 16 of the best.

Top Shelf, Where Momma Hides The Cookies

Of all of Rick Jeanneret's calls, perhaps none are more universal than "Top shelf, where momma hides the cookies!" It's unclear where this catchphrase started, but Sabres fans have been hearing it for years, and it's even made its way into the popular hockey lexicon.

There's not a Sabres fan alive that didn't announce many a street hockey goal with this very phrase, and it's one that is bored into our collective Buffalo consciousness.

We Are Not Worthy

Dominik Hasek made many a spectacular save during his time in Buffalo, but perhaps none were better than a diving effort against Philadelphia. With the game tied 1-1, Hasek found himself out of position on the side of the net after making the first save, but in a way only Hasek knew how to do, dove back across the crease for a miraculous save that forced some wild gesticulating screams from Rick Jeanneret that laid the groundwork for a future call in addition to spawning the true statement, "We are not worthy!" He's since used it in other contexts, but the original will always be the best.
