The Best of Rick Jeanneret is our summer quest to determine which of Jeanneret’s most memorable calls ranks as the greatest of all time by ranking and voting on 16 of the best.
Shields/Snow Goalie Fight
In one of the most memorable brawls in hockey history, the Sabres and Flyers found themselves engaged in a 5-on-5 melee…until it became 6-on-6 when either team’s goalie got involved in the scrum. After a lengthy build up featuring plenty of action in and of itself, Steve Shields and Garth Snow decided they’d had enough watching and decided to get involved themselves. The rare goalie fight was made even more memorable because of the accompaniment an already-incensed Jeanneret provided. Some consider this clip to be the true Hockey Heaven.
Wounded Duck
In yet another clip featuring the Flyers (what is it with these guys that brings out the best in Jeanneret?) Richard Smehlik provided Sabres fans with a memorable holiday goal. On Thanksgiving, Smehlik fired a weak, wobbly shot that somehow found its way to the back of the net – a wounded duck to serve at Thanksgiving dinner.
