The Best Of Jeanneret: (2) La-la-la-la-la-la-LaFontaine vs. (3) Call A Cop, He Robbed Him Blind

The Best of Rick Jeanneret is our summer quest to determine which of Jeanneret’s most memorable calls ranks as the greatest of all time by ranking and voting on 16 of the best.

La-la-la-la-la-la-LaFontaine

This call doesn’t really need any introduction, mostly because I’m not sure anybody’s sure how it started. But you can bet that anytime Pat LaFontaine put one in the back of the net, you’d hear Jeanneret’s voice ring out with a “La-la-la-la-la-la-LaFontaine!!” It even spawned a special holiday version, but more on that later.

Call A Cop, He Robbed Him Blind

Though this call has had many variations over the years, it all began with fan favorite Martin Biron, and yet another game against the Philadelphia Flyers. After getting caught along the boards waaaaaaay too far out of position, Biron hustled back into his crease and dove like a soccer goalie across the net, his stick just barely tipping a shot by Andy Delmore over the net. It was an unbelievable play, as Rick Jeanneret’s high pitched shrieking reminded us, and led to the birth of a Jeanneret catchphrase that Sabres fans hear a few times a year after a spectacular save.
