Sydney Bears weekend recap 4/25/16

The Sydney Bears kicked off their 2016 AIHL season with a false start, losing at home 6-3 to the CBR Brave in their only game of the weekend. For some perspective, the Bears are not at full strength yet as they await a couple of imports and the starting goalie. James Downie, who played in goal on Sunday, actually turns 16 tomorrow.

After the game, Geoff Irwin spoke to the Bears media after making his first appearance for the Bears. Irwin is a Canadian import, with the veteran having captained Minnesota State University Mankato where Buffalo Sabres defenseman Casey Nelson also played.

There was no video from this game, but here’s the audio highlights package. We will get the video highlights the AIHL releases in a couple of days and carry it in the Bears links.

Stay tuned during the week as we will bring you more Bears coverage, including some insight from Bears commentator Julian Daw, the Bears official media kit and the AIHL hockey analysts at Hockey Down Under.
