Minus – 1: Turnovers

This was a tough game to watch overall, but things definitely took a turn halfway through the second period. Two Pittsburgh goals – one short-handed – were scored as a result of some ugly turnovers from Taylor Hall. The Penguins’ fourth goal was scored in the last seconds of the second period and it was like watching a car accident happen right before your eyes.

And, even though he scored tonight, Rasmus Dahlin looked like his usual lost puppy self. He contributed greatly to the mishandling of the puck as did Eric Staal when his stumble later in the game led to Sid the Kid’s goal to make it 5-1 and sustain Buffalo’s suffering. Olofsson had a beautiful penalty shot hit the back of the net in the third period to make it 5-2, but at that point, who cared?

Minus – 2: What Does a Win Feel Like?

If you forgot what it feels like to win a hockey game, you are not alone. After tonight’s game, Buffalo has a franchise record of 15 consecutive losses – a losing streak that has now surpassed the tank year and is the longest winless skid in the league since the 2005-06 season. Unfortunately, there are still 25 more games left in the season (half of which they will face Pittsburgh and Boston) and the Sabres only have a measly 16 points. They have now lost five times with a score of 5-2 this season.

To put things even more into perspective: the Islanders have only played two more games than the Sabres and they have 46 points.
