Senators vs. Sabres Recap: Sabres Drop Decision In Overtime

The Buffalo Sabres seem to have an aversion of winning games at the First Niagara Center. The team dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime to the Ottawa Senators, dropping their record to 15-12-3 on the season and 7-9-3 at home. Their five game homestand will end against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night.

The Senators jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Milan Michalek found the bouncing puck in front of the net and found a wide open net after Ryan Miller found himself way out of position. That would be the last Senators goal until the third period, as the Sabres jumped out to a 2-1 lead. The first Sabres goal came from Paul Szczechura off of a Erik Karlsson turnover right in front of the net. 1:28 later, Derek Roy jumped on a David Rundblad turnover and eventually fed the puck to Tyler Ennis who beat Craig Anderson.

From there, the Sabres tried to shut down the Senators, but Peter Regin was able to find the back of the net through a massive screen in front of Ryan Miller. Then at the :45 mark of overtime, Jared Cowen found himself in front of the net all alone and beat Miller for the game winning goal.

The Sabres were only outshot 13-12 in the first period, but tried to play more of a defensive game and found themselves being outshot 31-17 in the final two periods and in overtime. Miller made 41 saves in the losing effort while Senators goaltender Craig Anderson made 27 for the win.

The Sabres will take on the Leafs on Friday and then turn around and face the Penguins in Pittsburgh on Saturday night.
