Sabres vs. Predators recap: Another classic Sabres game means an overtime loss

For a few moments it seemed like the Buffalo Sabres might actually do the impossible.

The worst team in the NHL was playing the best team in the NHL and it looked like the worst team was going to escape with a win despite being outclassed in every way except in net. The Buffalo Sabres went into the final five minutes of last night’s game with a slim 1-0 lead, and it took a Nashville power play goal to tie things up and send the game to overtime, where the Preds would eventually win.

The biggest reason the Sabres were in the game to begin with was the performance of Michal Neuvirth, who stopped 37 of 38 Nashville shots. “Michal played a great game again,” said Ted Nolan after the game. “Every game he’s played since he got all the starts, he’s been playing really, really good for us.”

The lone Sabres goal came on a beautiful effort from Zemgus Girgensons to hand on to the puck, spin around, and no-look a pass right to Tyler Ennis, who buried the puck past Nashville goalie Connor Hutton, who only had to face 17 Sabres shots.

With the loser point, the Sabres now have a five point lead on Edmonton with one game in hand.
