Three Questions

1. Why is Sam Reinhart sitting? And Nikita Zadorov? What are we doing here?

Brian Flynn is in the lineup tonight for Sam Reinhart, who will join Zadorov in the press box as a healthy scratch. “It’s all part of the process,” said Ted Nolan today. I realize that guys can learn from the press box, but this reeks of the Grigorenko quagmire of 2013. I think it’s obvious to most fans that Reinhart would be better served with another year in junior hockey, so why not just send he and Zadorov back, rather than letting them rot in the press box? Hopefully Brian Flynn will make an impact on the ice.

2. Will the Sabres finally come out with a strong first period effort?

The Sabres have been outshot by their opponents 36-69 in the first period, but somehow have managed to tie their opponents on the score sheet 3-3 thanks to strong goaltending. Still, the first period effort has been a constant refrain in post-game press conferences, and the Sabres won’t be able to

3. How will Jhonas Enroth hold up on the wrong end of a back-to-back?

It’s early in the season, but you always worry about starting a goaltender two days in a row. The Sabres need strong goaltending to avoid being completely blown out, and after last night’s game, they might need world-class goaltending to stick with any of the better teams.
