Sabres sign RFA Chad Ruhwedel to a two-year deal

The Sabres announced that they have signed defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to a two-year extension. With his signing, Tyler Ennis and Luke Adam are the Sabres only unsigned restricted free agents.

Ruhwedel has played 28 games with the Sabres since signing as a college free agent out of UMass-Lowell. He hasn’t lit up the lamp, notching only one assist, but has been a steady defensive presence for the Sabres. Last season he played 47 games in Rochester, scoring four goals and 24 assists. He was also very impressive in the Amerks series against Chicago, scoring two goals and three assists in five playoff games. At 24 he could be another piece of the Sabres young blueline, and he has a good shot at playing a majority of this season in Buffalo.

When it comes to advanced stats, Ruhwedel was one of their best defenseman last season. His +4.8 relative Corsi was tied with Christian Ehrhoff as best among Sabres defensemen and his +4.6 relative Fenwick was second only behind Ehrhoff.
