Sabres select Jakub Konecny in Seventh Round

Buffalo uses their last pick of the Draft on a center

The Buffalo Sabres have selected center Jakub Konecny with their thirtieth pick of the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

The 18-year-old currently plays for Sparta Juniors in the Czech Republic’s Junior League. He currently stands at 5’11” and weighing in at 156lbs, is a left shooter and came into the draft ranked #98 by NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING (EU Skaters).

From Defending Big D scouting report -

What Konecny brings to the table is pretty straightforward: he’s fast and has above-average puck control. The fact that he plays center is a bonus, although there’s some doubt about whether he has what it takes to stay as a pivot-moving forward. The 2020 crop of Czech forwards is fairly underwhelming, which has given Konecny a lot of opportunity to represent his country internationally, something that is likely to continue. Scoring totals don’t fully reflect his tools.
