Sabres recall Lehner, send Ullmark to Rochester

After suffering a lower-body injury halfway through the opening game of the season, Buffalo Sabres goaltender Robin Lehner is finally healed and ready to play. He was recalled from AHL Rochester today and will likely start in one of Buffalo’s two games this weekend.

Lehner, who will take over the role of starting goaltender in Buffalo, just finished up a conditioning stint with the Amerks that saw him go 1-2 with a .888 save percentage. While those numbers aren’t what you’d like to see from an NHL starter, keep in mind that Lehner is still working himself back in to game shape after almost four months off.

He should get the majority of the Sabres remaining games to help prove GM Tim Murray right or wrong in giving up a first round pick in last year’s draft to acquire the young goaltender.

To make room for Lehner, Linus Ullmark was sent back to Rochester, where he will jump into the starter’s role for the Amerks. Chad Johnson will serve as the backup to Lehner.
