Sabres re-sign Mittelstadt to a three-year deal

On Thursday morning, the Buffalo Sabres announced the re-signing of restricted free agent forward Casey Mittelstadt.

Mittelstadt, 22 years old, has played all 155 career NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres.

After being drafted with the eighth overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Level Draft, expectations have often overshadowed what Mittelstadt has been able to accomplish on the ice.

Despite the slow start to his NHL career, Mittelstadt rebounded during the 2020-21 NHL season, recording 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in 41 games.

Mittelstadt’s game appeared to respond and develop under head coach Don Granato, which has some fans seeing that on-ice promise that was talked about when Mittelstadt was drafted.

This newly-announced contract will take Mittelstadt through the end of the 2023-24 NHL season. Following the expiration of this deal, Mittelstadt will once again be a restricted free agent.
