Sabres place Lehner on IR, call-up Lieuwen and send down McCabe and Ullmark

The Sabres do not have the results of Robin Lehner’s MRI yet, but have decided to put him on injured reserve anyways. While one goalie goes on the IR, one comes off, as Linus Ullmark was activated and sent to Rochester. From what Dan Bylsma said, many of the reporters there are saying that it sounds like Ullmark will be ready to suit up very soon.

The Sabres backup today will be Nathan Lieuwen, who was called up from Rochester this afternoon. He was the Amerks starter in their season opening 6-3 victory over Lake Erie last night. He played in seven games with the Sabres last year, with a .906 save percentage and 2.98 goals against average.

The Sabres also sent Jake McCabe down to Rochester. He did not play in the opener against the Senators and is a welcome addition to an Amerks defense that has been depleted by the Sabres injuries. The Sabres now have seven healthy defensemen on the roster.
