Final Thoughts
On the 9th win in a row, our true team gave to us: a come from behind victory. The Sabres battled back and turned in another mostly dominant performance.
Alex Lyon looked shaky early after getting caught cheating off the rush on the first goal and surrendered a particularly soft second goal after Snuggerud jammed it in from the side of the net. However, Lyon settled down and made some good saves while Buffalo found their legs. The first period was largely even despite the Blues lead, but the Sabres took control from there.
They doubled the Blues shots in the second en route to evening the score. They carried that momentum into the third where they outshot St. Louis 12 to 2, were 20-6 ahead on shot attempts, 5-1 high danger chances and 70% of xG while leading on the road. That’s usually a recipe for success.
Once again, Buffalo was able to roll lines, and their consistent pressure broke through and secured the win. 8 different skaters recorded a point on their 4 goals. The contributions made throughout the lineup is providing a level of consistency we haven’t seen in a long time. If one line has an off night, there are three others that can pick up the slack. The days of needing to shelter a line or certain players looks to be over.
They have their work cut out for them on Wednesday as they close out the calendar year with Dallas. The Stars are 2nd in the league with a record of 25-7-7. The way Buffalo has played over the last three weeks, they have a good a chance as any to fly out of DFW on New Year’s Eve with a positive result.
