Sabres hire Andrew Allen as goalie coach

Dan Bylsma has filled out his staff by hiring Andrew Allen as the team’s next goalie coach. Allen has served as the Blackhawks development goalie coach for the last four seasons.

He has worked with many of the young goalies that have come up through Chicago’s system, most recently Scott Darling, Antti Raanta and Carter Hutton. He was “instrumental” in the pursuit of Raanta from Finland according to the Rockford Icehogs website.

Prior to joining the Blackhawks organization Allen spent time with the Japanese National Team and St. Lawrence University. He played five years of professional hockey between the AHL and ECHL.

Allen replaces Arturs Irbe, who Dan Bylsma announced he would not retain at the end of last month.
