Sabres could make a move for Rick Nash according to Elliotte Friedman

Tim Murray hasn’t been one to shy away from big moves, but they’ve all been for players who are still rather young. Now that the tanking is over, could he make a move for a veteran to help the team win now? Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the Sabres in on a possible trade for Rangers forward Rick Nash.

“The team I think to watch in something like this is a team like Buffalo,” Friedman said, as transcribed by Chris Nichols. “They already went out and they got Evander Kane. I could see them being interested in a player like Nash too. Tim’s a bit aggressive that way. But again, I’m not 100 percent convinced that one’s going to happen.”

Nash, who turns 31 tomorrow, scored 42 goals and 27 assists in 79 games this season. It was the highest point total he’s put up since 2008-09 with Columbus. In the playoffs he scored five goals and nine assists in 19 games. If the Sabres were to acquire Nash, he’d be the third oldest player on the roster signed through next season, behind only Brian Gionta and Cody McCormick.
