Sabres claim Matt D’Agostini off waivers, waive Corey Tropp

According to multiple reports, including TSN’s Ryan Rishaug, the Sabres have grabbed a player off waivers for the first time this season by claiming forward Matt D’Agostini from the Pittsburgh Penguins. D’Agostini has had a quiet season so far, scoring only one assist in eight games for the Penguins. To make room on the roster the Sabres have waived Corey Tropp in hopes that he will clear and head to Rochester.

D’Agostini is a seven year veteran of the NHL whose spent time in Montreal, St. Louis, New Jersey, and most recently Pittsburgh. His best season came in 2010-2011, where he scored 21 goals and 25 assists with the Blues. However, he hasn’t come close to those totals since and only scored three goals in last year’s shortened season. How much playing time he’ll get is really up in the air.

With the addition the Sabres were forced to make a roster move. To make room Corey Tropp has been sent down to Rochester, but must clear waivers first. Since coming back from injury he has one assist in nine games, but has impressed many fans in other ways. The move is a bit surprising, especially since Tropp seemed to fit into Ted Nolan’s mold.
