Sabres beat Bruins 3-2 thanks to Eichel OT winner

The Prospect Challenge wrapped up last night, and it included what will hopefully the first of many instances of this sentence: the Buffalo Sabres beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 thanks to Jack Eichel’s overtime winner.

Eichel ripped a shot past Boston goalie Zane McIntyre with 37 seconds left in OT to down the baby Bruins, and added a sweet power play assist to Brycen Martin earlier in the game to help tie the game at two. Martin was pretty impressed with the pass, saying after the game,

“Honestly, I had no clue, but he’s an exceptional player and he can make plays like that and I felt pretty good after he did it,” Martin said. “I don’t think I’m gonna forget that pass, it was so perfect.”

The Sabres third goal was scored by Vaclav Karabacek, and helped tie the game at one. The Sabres, who fell behind twice in the game, put Eichel and Reinhart on the same line for much of the third period to try and jump-start the offense, which evidently worked. It was the first time the two uber-prospects had played together in a game or even practice situation, according to Sabres.com.

Buffalo finished the Prospects Challenge with a perfect 2-0 record, and the organization will now look towards its first preseason game next Monday.
