Sabres at Stars Recap: Lindy Ruff gets 600th win despite Jhonas Enroth’s best efforts

They might not have Ryan Miller anymore, but the Buffalo Sabres got another ace performance out of their goaltender, who kept them in the game until the bitter end despite being outshot 39-23.

Unfortunately, a so often happened with Miller, Jhonas Enroth ended up taking the loss for his efforts as the Sabres fell to the Dallas stars 3-2.

It was Lindy Ruff’s 600th win tonight, and it snapped Buffalo’s rare three game winning streak in the process. For much of the game, Ruff’s Stars looked like his Sabres of 2006. They were faster than Buffalo and used their speed, talent, and possession skills to draw six penalties to Buffalo’s one, and converted on one of their power play chances.

The Sabres top line stayed hot, as Tyler Ennis scored both Buffalo goals, assisted each time by Matt Moulson, likely playing in his final game for the blue and gold. In fact, this could have been the final Sabres game for a number of players, as Buffalo won’t take the ice again until Thursday, after the trade deadline is complete.

I’m not gonna lie to you, folks, I didn’t get a chance to watch too much of this game. So until I have a chance to watch the replay on GameCenter, help fill us in with your thoughts in the comments.

Three Questions

1. Can Jhonas Enroth replicate his excellent performance from Friday?
Yes. Enroth pulled a Miller impression and kept an undermanned Buffalo squad in it until the final buzzer. If he keeps this up the rest of the season, he’ll certainly cement a starting gig come next year.

2. How will Chris Stewart look in his Sabres debut?
Not great. Stewart was a -2 in 17:25 of ice time, and recorded a single shot and hit each. There’s a significant chance it might have been his only game in blue and gold.

3. Which Sabre adds or detracts the most from their trade value today?
Matt Moulson assisted on both Tyler Ennis goals, while defensemen Christian Ehrhoff (+2 in over 22 minutes) also showed well.

Three Stars

1. Jhonas Enroth – made 36 saves and kept Buffalo in it. Sound familiar?
2. Alex Chiasson – 1g and 7 shots
3. Ray Whitney – 2 assists

Some of these replays

Enroth looks a little bit like a cat pouncing on a laser pointer.

Thankfully cats are very good at pouncing on laser pointers.

Enroth is the new Julie the cat?
