Sabres at Capitals preview: Can Buffalo win three in a row?

Hell might freeze over faster than Buffalo did this week if the Sabres manage to win their third straight tonight against Washington.

Game #21

Buffalo Sabres (5-13-2) vs.
Washington Capitals (9-7-3)

Puck Drop: 7:00 pm EST | Verizon Center | Washington, D.C.

Three Questions

1. Can the Sabres figure out how to stop either of Washington's excellent special tams units?

The Capitals have the third best power play unit in the league, humming along at 24.1%, while their penalty killers have killed 14 straight penalties over the last few games. The Sabres still have the worst PP in the NHL, and a bottom-10 penalty kill, so this will be a tall order. But if they can, it could swing the balance of the game in the Sabres favor.

2. Will the Sabres offensive explosion continue after taking three days off and having their game on Friday rescheduled?

Over their past three games, the Sabres have scored 13 goals - for some perspective, it took them 11 games at the beginning of the season to score 13 goals - but can they keep it going after taking a few days off? The Buffalo snowstorm prevented the team from practicing as often as they usually would have, and forced the league to postpone their Friday night game.

3. Will the Sabres do the impossible and win three straight?

If you live in Western New York, you've seen some crazy s**t this past week, but the most unbelievable thing that might happen tonight is watching the Sabres win three straight.
