After sweeping Syracuse in the second round, the Rochester Americans face a more difficult opponent in the North Division Finals in Laval Rocket, who had finished the regular season ahead of the Amerks.
The best-of-five series for the AHL playoffs division finals is a bit unconventional with the lower ranked team getting the first two games at home, followed by three on the road at the higher ranked team. If the Amerks can win both their home games to start off the series, they will have three shots at eliminating the Canadian side when they go across the border.
