Rochester Americans Update: March 31

The Rochester Americans’ magic number? Nine.

That’s the number of points they need to secure a spot in the 2023 Calder Cup Playoffs. It’s a good number for Rochester – the number Jody Gage sported during his time there, as well as Dick Gamble. It’s also one of two jersey numbers retired by the team.

The Amerks currently sit fourth in the North Division with a 31-25-5-3 record, with only the first-place Toronto Marlies having secured a spot in the AHL postseason so far in their division. Utica and Syracuse sit ahead of the Amerks in the standings, with Cleveland five points back and Laval six points back. Belleville is eight points behind Rochester.

Heading into this weekend, the Amerks have garnered at least a point in 13 of their last 18 games. With eight games left in the season, it’s a good time to buckle down and get some crucial regulation wins against divisional opponents in the race for a playoff spot.

Subban Leads in Net

Malcolm Subban has played the majority of Rochester’s games this season, with over 2,000 minutes of action in 34 games. He has a 2.97 GAA and is 17-13-4 with a .902 save percentage and two shutouts.

Michael Houser has appeared in 18 games, with a 7-7-2 record, a 2.83 GAA and .906 save percentage.

Essentially, it’s Subban’s net – and he’s earned it.
