Reports Indicate Sabres Will Play Outdoor Game

Sabres may play Leafs in Hamilton, Ontario

Reports have surfaced over the weekend that the Buffalo Sabres will host the Toronto Maple Leafs in an outdoor matinee game this coming season. An official announcement may come as early as this week about the game, which will reportedly be held at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

The news was first reported by the “Sabres North” Twitter account, a group which aims to connect Canadian Sabres fans.

Last week, the Sabres announced a pair of half-season ticket plans — neither of which include that scheduled game between Buffalo and Toronto. It would certainly make sense for that game to not be included in either of the ticket plans if it is indeed a marquee event.

Following the initial report by Sabres North, the news has since been reported by The Buffalo News, The Toronto Sun and The Score.

This would be the third outdoor game in Sabres history, joining the 2008 Winter Classic at Bills Stadium and the 2018 Winter Classic at Citi Field. Both of those were considered home games for the Sabres, just as this one in Hamilton reportedly would be.

Obviously, this one would be a little more complicated, as the US/Canadian border currently remains closed - which would certainly stifle the ability of WNY-based fans to make the trek. March is still many moons away, and lots can happen between now & then.

For now, we’ll keep this tidbit of information in our back pocket until an official announcement is made.
