Report: Skinner Agrees to Waive NMC for Expansion Draft

With just three days remaining before the Buffalo Sabres must hand in their list of protected players to the National Hockey League, news out of Buffalo this morning appears to have made general manager Kevyn Adams’ job a little easier.

Skinner is coming off the worst statistical season in his 11 year NHL career, where he only amassed 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 53 games.

With six years, and an annual nine million dollar AAV, remaining on his eight year contract, it is highly unlikely that the Seattle Kraken will pick up Skinner’s contract.

While some might be surprised by today’s development, it was a move that was not only deemed necessary but ultimately, provides more flexibility for the Buffalo Sabres front office.

Instead of being forced to protect Skinner and his no movement clause, Buffalo can now focus their efforts essentially protecting an extra forward while almost certainly expecting to have Skinner return for the 2021-22 NHL season.

Skinner essentially gets a nice little stick tap for being a team player.

Projections currently have Buffalo going the route of protecting seven forwards, three defensemen and a goaltender over the other option of selecting eight skaters (forwards and defensemen combined) and a goaltender.

We will have more information on Buffalo’s protected player list as the aforementioned list becomes available in the coming days.
