Report: Kraken to Take Will Borgen in Expansion Draft

Per reporting by The Buffalo News’ Lance Lysowski, and confirmed by multiple national reporters, the Seattle Kraken will select defenseman Will Borgen from the Buffalo Sabres in this evening’s NHL Expansion Draft.

Borgen, 24, is a right-handed shot defenseman with 14 games of NHL experience. He appeared in four games with the Sabres in the 2018-19 season, and ten games during this past season. He has yet to record his first NHL point.

Over the years, Borgen has played in parts of three seasons with the AHL’s Rochester Americans. The Moorhead, Minnesota native formerly attended St. Cloud State from 2015-2018 and was selected by the Sabres with the 92nd overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Borgen’s selection seems to follow in a line of young talent the Kraken will pick up in their expansion draft. Although there are certain to be trades and other signings coming, players who have been reported as upcoming Seattle selections including Carolina’s Morgan Geekie, Dallas’ Jamie Oleksiak, Los Angeles’ Kurtis MacDermid and St. Louis’ Vince Dunn. Other names who appear to be headed to the Kraken include Jared McCann, Cale Fleury and Vitek Vanecek.

Seattle’s full expansion draft selections will officially be revealed at 8 p.m. Wednesday on ESPN2.
