Report: Girgensons to Re-Sign with Sabres

Free agency starts on Friday at 12pm Eastern Time but that did not stop the Buffalo Sabres from reportedly keeping one of their own.

Zemgus Girgensons, a seven-year NHL veteran, has played all 489 career games with the Buffalo Sabres.

In those aforementioned 489 games, Girgensons has amassed 138 points (61 goals, 77 assists).

A first-round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry-Level Draft, Girgensons has not become an offensive force that one might expect out of a first-round pick but he has developed quite a niche in the Sabres bottom-six.

In 69 games last season, Girgensons amassed 19 points (12 goals, 7 assists). Girgensons was second on the Sabres with 110 hits.

Girgensons has seen success over the last few seasons on a line with Johan Larsson and Kyle Okposo, shutting down tougher opponents with relative ease.

One would have to presume that Girgensons’ role will remain relatively the same as this contract plays itself out.
