Report: Evander Kane under investigation for sex offense

Four writers from The Buffalo News, including Sabres beat writer John Vogl and Tim Graham, are reporting that Buffalo Sabres winger Evander Kane is the subject of a sex offense investigation by the City of Buffalo Police Department.

Kane has not been charged with any crime, but the News is reporting that he is the subject of an investigation by the Sex Offense Squad of the Buffalo Police. Any potential victims or suspects have not been identified at this time.

The reported incident took place on Sunday morning at a hotel downtown close to the First Niagara Center. Kane was absent from practice this morning for personal reasons, and his equipment stood unused in the locker room.

Just months after Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane was also the subject of a similar investigation, another Kane will now need to go through the legal process, though hopefully this investigation is far more competently run from all sides than the Patrick Kane circus. Evander Kane is being represented legally by Paul Cambria, the same lawyer who represented Patrick Kane.

Since coming to the Sabres, Evander Kane has done a good amount of work in the community to help reshape an image that was dragged through the mud in his final days as a Winnipeg Jet, most recently buying dinner and gift cards for 50 members of a local Boys and Girl’s Club.

We would caution everyone who wishes to comment on this report to keep a level head on all sides, and we’ll have more on this story as it develops.
