Buffalo Sabres Send Guhle to Ducks

The Buffalo Sabres have sent prospect defenseman Brendan Guhle and a first-round draft pick to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Brandon Montour.

The first-round pick going to Anaheim will not be Buffalo’s – it will be either San Jose’s or St. Louis’, which Buffalo owns.

The team has now made the deal official.

Montour, 24, has played his entire NHL career up to this point with Anaheim. In 169 career games, he has 63 points (16-47) and is a plus-11. This season. he’s averaging 22:40 ice time in 62 games played with the Ducks.

Montour is a native of Brantford, Ontario and was drafted 55th overall by the Ducks in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Guhle, 21, has appeared in 23 NHL games with the Sabres over his young career, including a pair of games this season. He’s spent most of this season with the AHL’s Rochester Americans, where he’s put up 27 points (5-22) in 50 games. He’s been a highly-touted defensive prospect for the Sabres, but has regressed a bit this season with newcomers like Lawrence Pilut stepping up.

Stay tuned for more details as the NHL trade deadline approaches.
