Report: Sabres hire Dan Girardi for player development role

We have some late-night Buffalo Sabres news to chew on. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported that the Sabres are hiring veteran NHL defenseman Dan Girardi for a role in player development.

The Welland, Ontario native played 13 years in the NHL with the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning. He lives just over the border and was often seen at HARBORCENTER in the summer over the last few years skating with Sabres players getting ready for the season.

This would be a good hire for the Sabres to get someone as respected as him around their players. He can assist the coaches and can help players prepare off the ice.

He’ll be working with the newly appointed director of player development, Matt Ellis, in this role with the club. He’s one of the first hires under Kevyn Adams that is coming outside of the Pegula Sports and Entertainment umbrella.
