Recap: Sabres dominated by the Blues

Final Score: Blues 5, Sabres 1

Shots: Blues 31 | Sabres 19

Blues Goal Scorers: Rob Thomas (8), Tyler Bozak (10), David Perron (19), Alex Steen (1, 2)

Sabres Goal Scorers: Jack Eichel (27)

Plus-1: Eichel and Reinhart

Well, the good news is that Sam Reinhart and Jack Eichel did their job in attempting to carry the Buffalo Sabres offense. The bad news is that beyond those two forwards, nobody else created much in terms of quality scoring chances. Eichel and Reinhart led the team in individual shot attempts and individual shot quality at the end of the night.

Plus-2: Pilut Debut

Lawrence Pilut looked good in his season debut for the Sabres. He had a strong first period in terms of the underlying numbers, but then like the rest of the team, they fell off as the game went on. He showed that he belongs in the NHL and should have been here sooner.

Minus-1: Dominated in Possession

It felt like the Blues had the puck the entire game and the numbers backed up that observation. The Blues finished the game with a 58% Corsi share at 5 on 5.

Minus-2: Bad Linus

Last night wasn’t the best performance from Linus Ullmark. He appeared to be fighting the puck all night long. Looking behind him and kicking out rebounds that his team was able to clear most of the game. He had a goal off a poor rebound pulled off the board from an offside challenge. However, the fourth goal of the game that stood he wound up in the corner after diving all over the ice. The Sabres need a better performance from him moving forward if they want any chance at staying in the playoff race.
