Pominville, Adam Selected For NHL All-Star Weekend

The NHL announced the 2012 All-Star selections rosters today, and the Buffalo Sabres will have two representatives, and one obvious non-participant.

Jason Pominville was selected to the All-Star team thanks to his 43 points thus far, enough to tie him for 10th in the league, while Luke Adam was chosen as a member of the Rookie All-Stars.

“It’s a pretty cool opportunity,” Pominville said this afternoon in First Niagara Center. “It should be a fun weekend. I’m obviously excited. I’ve been used to having a little bit of a break, but I guess this year will be a little different.”

Curiously absent, however is Thomas Vanek, undoubtedly the Sabres best player and tied for 11th in the league with 19 goals. While we can argue the merit of Vanek making the team over some more questionable choices (*cough*Ovechkin*cough*), Vanek may have taken himself out of consideration in order to get healthy, telling John Vogl of The Buffalo News,

“It doesn’t matter. The people who know me, that’s not why I play the game. I’ll take the five days off.”

You can watch both Adam and Pominville in the All-Star skills competition on Jan. 28, while Pominville will participate in the All-Star game on Jan. 29.
