Finally, a Bracket We Care About: Join Die By The Blade’s Playoff Challenge

The Sabres are In, and You Should Be Too: Join the Official DBTB Bracket League

Every postseason we’ve filled out our brackets, putting in the names of sixteen teams any one of which we’d happily replace with the ‘Buffalo Sabres’ into the bracket, picking hated rivals to unfortunately make it all the way to the glory of a Stanley Cup.

Not this season though, as the Sabres officially bear the mantle of ‘A1’, winners of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference, having come really close to making the full transition from the worst team in the East to the very top but settling in second.

Wait a minute, what is a ‘Bracket’ and how do I ‘join’ it?

The NHL Bracket Challenge is a free-to-play contest on NHL.com where fans predict the outcomes of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including series winners and total games. Participants join leagues to compete against friends or globally, earning points for correct picks and winning prizes, such as NHL event tickets.

Apart from bragging rights on DBTB, the overall winner will win a trip to a 2026-27 NHL event and an Adventure Chrono NHL Limited Edition Watch by Norqain.

Click here and log in with your NHL.com credentials. You might have to sign up for an NHL account if you don’t have one.

If it doesn’t bring you to the Bracket League page, type in ‘Die By The Blade’ in the Leagues search bar and you’ll see us there.

How Do I Win This Whole Damn Thing?

Brackets are scored as following, with every correct pick getting –

First Round series winner – 10 points
Second Round series winner – 25 points
Conference Finals series winner – 50 points
Stanley Cup Final series winner – 100 points
Bonus: 3 points for each correctly predicted series length.

So make your picks, choose the series length, and then when you’ve filled it all out hit submit and you’re done. Drop your handle from the site down here in the comments.

Note: The bracket selection does not open until the Western Conference completes play later tonight (Thursday).
