NHL Free Agency: Sabres rumors and open thread (Day 2 and beyond)

The 2016 NHL Free Agency opened up with a bang yesterday, with a frenzied spate of signings in the first couple of hours after the dealings started at noon. Overall, over $400million dollars was committed to free agents

Buffalo Sabres fans will have been happy to see Tim Murray get in there early and lock up a big target, winger Kyle Okposo. Expect to see some action regarding the backup goalie position for Buffalo as the weekend progresses.

While it may seem like there aren’t too many free agents left to sign after yesterday’s frenzy, there are a few steals still to be had.

Some players on defense still available include Jason Demers, Kris Russell, Justin Schultz, Roman Polak, Kyle Quincey, and Luke Schenn. Former Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth is also still available.

There are still some top nine forwards out there, among them Jiri Hudler and Kris Versteeg. Patrik Elias, Tomas Fleischmann, PA Parenteau, Brad Richards, Alex Tanguay and Radim Vrbata have all been around for some time and can add depth.

Finally, there’s grizzled veterans like Shane Doan and Matt Cullen, each 39 and looking to make that one last Cup run.

Keep it here for any breaking news on the Sabres and the remaining free agents.
