NHL Draft 2016: Sabres take LW Brandon Hagel with pick #159

With the 159th selection in the 2016 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres have taken left winger Brandon Hagel of the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL.

Hagel stands 6’0”, 165 lbs, and is ranked #104 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting. He scored 13-34-47 in his first WHL season, and has the kind of work ethic that endears players to Buffalonians for life.

Here’s more on Hagel from The Hockey Writers:

After joining the Rebels shortly after the beginning of the season, Hagel quickly and quietly adapted to the Western Hockey League and became a really important complementary piece for the club. While he does boast a solid, well-rounded game, his most impressive attribute is his work ethic. Simply put, Hagel is like the Energizer Bunny. Ranked 104th among North American skaters by Central Scouting, Hagel is a tireless worker and a really tenacious forechecker. He is dogged in his puck pursuit and his competitiveness, and it’s really only his wiry frame that’s holding him back.
