Sabres sign Jacob Bryson to entry-level contract

The Buffalo Sabres announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have signed defenseman Jacob Bryson to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Bryson, 21 years old, just completed his junior season with Providence College where he set a career-high with 24 assists and a career-high 28 points. Bryson tied a career-high with four goals.

Bryson finishes his NCAA career with 73 points (11 goals, 62 assists) in 121 games.

Despite being undersized at 5’9”, Bryson does not let that affect his overall game and actually has developed his game to use his small stature to his advantage.

“He’s (Bryson) learned to use his feet to defend,” Providence coach Nate Leaman told reporters at last week’s Frozen Four. “When you’re Jacob’s size, you’re not going to defend using your body, you’ve got to use your feet and be quick to get to areas.”

While the entry-level contract will begin tolling in the 2019-20 season, Bryson will sign an ATO with the Rochester Americans to begin his professional career in the coming days.
