Milestone Night for Okposo, Buffalo Earns Another Win

Score: Sabres 5 | Canucks 2

Shots: BUF 43 | VAN 34

Buffalo Sabres Goals: Kyle Okposo (2), Zemgus Girgensons (2), Jeff Skinner (1), Tage Thompson (2), Rasmus Asplund (1, EN)

Vancouver Canucks Goals: Bo Horvat (1), Justin Dowling (1)

Plus 1 | Okposo’s 200th

After coming off of a big weekend of wins, the Sabres did not let an early Vancouver lead stop their momentum. About halfway through the first period and down by one, Kyle Okposo took advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone and answered back with his own top-shelf beaut. It would become his 200th NHL goal and second so far this season. He is one of 56 U.S. born players to have scored 200 or more goals.

Following the goal, Okposo and his linemates were easily the most impactful line during the first period if not the entire game.

Okposo is on an eight-game point streak against the Canucks with five goals and four assists. That “A” on his jersey really suits him well.

Plus 2 | Keeping the Pace

One of the biggest criticisms of the Sabres the past few years – though it is hard to narrow it down to just a few – has been the team looking visibly unorganized and unmotivated. This has not been the case so far this season as they have been moving the puck well and avoiding too many whistle blows. It is so refreshing to see a team with speed and hard work at the forefront – qualities that have been lacking for far too long. Let’s hope they keep it going as the season continues.

Plus 3 | Mr. Smiley is Back

Jeff Skinner – looking to get back on track with scoring after a dismal season last year – had a huge goal early in the third period, which was quickly (23 seconds later, to be exact) followed by a Tage Thompson rebound goal to give the Sabres a 4-2 edge after trailing twice. Skinner has a lot to prove this season, but it sure was fun watching that signature smile return after a huge backhanded goal on his knees to give the Sabres their first lead of the game.

Three Stars

  1. Zemgus Girgensons (1G, 1A)
  2. Kyle Okposo (1G, 1A)
  3. Tage Thompson (1G)

Buffalo will face a tough opponent this Friday at KeyBank Center when they host the Boston Bruins. Puck drop will take place at 7 PM.
