Mike Babcock meeting with Sabres today, per WGR

Mike Babcock was recently given permission by the Detroit Red Wings to meet with other teams regarding their head coaching positions, and according to Matthew Coller of WGR, Babcock is meeting with the Buffalo Sabres today.

The Sabres are Babcock’s second meeting of the weekend, as he met with the Toronto Maple Leafs yesterday after receiving permission from the Red Wings to pursue other coaching opportunities on Friday. Babcock himself has saidnot to assume that he’s going to automatically leave Detroit, but everyone is doing just that, and most experts have the Sabres as one of the favorites to land the Stanley Cup winner.

Should the Sabres sign Babcock soon, they will have to offer up compensation to the Wings in the form of draft picks. According to TBN’s John Vogl, that compensation would likely be a third round pick.

We’ll have more on this story if anything new develops tonight, but for now, leave us your thoughts on Mike Babcock in the comments.

UPDATE: More confirmation on Babcock in Buffalo. Showing off HARBORCenter, Pegulabucks and commitment to the city will be huge.
