Michael Peca Returns to Sabres Organization

Following the recent appointment of Adam Mair to the role of Director of Player Development for the Buffalo Sabres, the Rochester Americans found themselves with a gap to fill on their coaching staff.

Rochester Americans General Manager Jason Karmanos announced the newest Amerks assistant coach on Tuesday morning and the name might just ring a few bells.

Peca, 47 years old, rejoins the Buffalo Sabres organization for the first time since the 1999-2000 NHL season, when he last played for the franchise.

Since leaving the Sabres organization, Peca spent time with the New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets.

Following his retirement following the 2008-09 NHL season, Peca spent time coaching the Buffalo Jr. Sabres and amassed a record of 69-28-11 in 108 games. Peca was also named the OJHL Coach of the Year in 2012-13.

After his stint as head coach, Peca moved up to General Manager of the Jr. Sabres and head coach of the Jr. Sabres 16U AAA / 15U AAA teams.

Peca moved back to the NHL for the 2020-21 season, serving as a player development coach for the Washington Capitals, mostly working with their players on the taxi squad.
