Johansson, McCabe named Sabres’ alternate captains

As the Buffalo Sabres get set to embark on a new season, head coach Ralph Krueger announced today that recent UFA signing, Marcus Johansson, and defenseman, Jake McCabe will serve behind Jack Eichel as alternate captains in 2019-20.

Last season, Zach Bogosian and Kyle Okposo wore the “A’s”, but with a new coach, comes a new set of secondary leadership. Both players have past experience in this arena on their respective resumes.

In 2018-19, Johansson spent time as an alternate with the New Jersey Devils before being traded to the Boston Bruins at the trade deadline. During the 2013 World Junior Championship, McCabe served as captain of the Team USA U-20 team.

Based on the reported practice lines, Johansson will start the year centering Jeff Skinner and Vladimir Sobotka on the second line, while McCabe will begin the 2019-20 campaign paired with Rasmus Ristolainen on the back end.
