Jake McCabe out long-term with an upper-body injury

The Buffalo Sabres got some more bad news today. They announced that defenseman Jake McCabe will be five to six weeks with an upper-body injury.

He was injured in the second period of the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday and didn’t return.

With only five weeks remaining in the Sabres season this injury will likely end McCabes 2018-19 campaign.

He played 55 games this season and registered 14 points. This will be the second straight season that McCabe has cut short due to injury.

This injury likely signals we’ll see a lot of Marco Scandella playing top pair minutes and Matt Hunwick taking McCabe’s spot on the left side of the defense for the rest of the season.

McCabe is a restricted-free-agent this summer. We’ll see what Jason Botterill has planned for the 25-year-old defender.

It would make sense for them to bring him back, but he could also be used as a trade chip with the left side of the defense having a lot of depth in the organization.
